Genetics is now developing as fast as, probably, no science has developed until now. Maybe only physics at the beginning of the 20th century was developing as rapidly and revolutionary. Now geneticists already know quite a lot about what genes are, how they interact with each other, etc. The very first, very simple chains of interrelated events are beginning to be studied. For example, it became known that the purpose of many genes is only to launch other genes into work, which, in turn, suppress the work of third genes, which, in turn, cease to suppress the work of fourth, and so on. For example, coordinated work of hundreds of genes is necessary for the synthesis of cortisol and the organization of its correct use in the body! One can imagine how incredibly difficult this process is.
I did not mention Cortisol accidentally – one of the riddles that genetics cannot solve in any way is connected with it, but which is solved elementarily with the help of … distinguishing perceptions and stopping the confusion of terms. Application of perceptual selection in genetics? Exactly. Genetics are in the same position in which there are physicists who master the mathematical apparatus brilliantly, but poorly understand the physical meaning of what is happening, and without this, we cannot become a truly excellent and deep physicist. To write a correct equation describing, say, a spontaneous departure of an alpha particle outside the nucleus is fine, but if you don’t understand the physical meaning, if you don’t have any adequate picture of what is happening, where does your thought go? Further blind grinding of equations? So you will not get pleasure. In genetics – the same thing. It can be traced – what is the sequence of the work of certain genes, write down the chain of reactions and even get the Nobel Prize for it, but if you do not understand – WHY so everything is arranged, what is the evolutionary expediency of such a device than all this is beneficial for man in general and for him separate organs, you find yourself blind – you have no guiding thread, no meaningful way, and all that remains for you is blind stumbling.
I will describe briefly the essence of this problem and how it is solved with the help of the Selection of Perceptions.
Doctors have long known that stress leads to a decrease in immunity. Any observant doctor, and just any observant person can easily notice it. Genetics explained this mechanism at the genetic level. The human chromosome 10 contains the CYP17 gene. If you read our “Life-Giving”, you remember how the genes work, and if you have not read it – it doesn’t matter, I’ll not go into details now. This gene produces a protein catalyst that is responsible for the conversion of cholesterol, which enters our body through food, into special hormones, which are collectively called steroids. Without them, human life is impossible, and their lack causes serious diseases.
(It is interesting to recall in this connection – what paranoia of cholesterol phobia has covered quite recently humanity. People even refused to eat eggs, did not eat fried food to reduce the amount of cholesterol, sat on some crazy diets. The thought of these homegrown “scientists” was blunt – Since cholesterol deposits sometimes form on vessels, they make them brittle — let’s not give the body cholesterol! Foolishness is terrible. Without cholesterol, we die. The problem is not its excess, but its incorrect use, and the reason for its improper use by our body. With the same success, having discovered some violations of the blood composition, we could try to deprive a person of blood. In addition, cholesterol is perfectly synthesized by our body from carbohydrates).
Steroids are different: progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, estradiol, aldosterone, vitamin D, etc.
Cortisol is one of the steroids. It is used absolutely in all the tissues of our body, performing a huge number of different functions, but the mystery of genetics I mentioned is related to the fact that cortisol directly affects the immune system. And its influence, let’s say, “negative.” I put the word “negative” in quotation marks so that there is no association with the word “bad.” When your stomach is cut so that the guts stick out – it is not “bad” in itself – because if your stomach was cut by a surgeon to save you from peritonitis, then you would consider it as a “blessing”, and without such cutting of the abdomen your life would be interrupted in a very painful way.
So cortisol inhibits immunity. Interestingly, stress leads to an immediate increase in cortisol concentration in a person’s blood.
Short-term stresses mobilize the body – the content of adrenaline and noradrenaline rises in the blood – hormones that make the heart beat faster, prepare the body for battle, to overcome obstacles. But! But if stresses are long-term, then everything changes – adrenaline and norepinephrine very quickly cease to be released, and cortisol, which lymphocytes suffer – the very white blood cells that protect us from germs, starts to flow slowly and inevitably.
At the genetic level, the situation is as follows: the TCF gene lies on the same 10th human chromosome. It lies mainly “silently” (see in “Zhivomordnosti” on silent genes), that is, inactive or inactive, and nothing is synthesized from it. But here comes cortisol, which appeared because you are under constant stress (for example, when thinking about school, lessons, exams, punishments for poor studies, there is constant anxiety). This stress has led to the fact that the cerebral cortex, perceiving and analyzing information from the outside world, sends a signal to the hypothalamus, which commands the pituitary gland to synthesize a certain hormone, which commands the adrenal glands to start producing cholesterol. This command is performed by launching the CYP17 gene, which begins to produce cortisol from cholesterol. Cortisol, in turn, “turns on” the TCF gene, and a special protein corresponding to it begins to be produced in the cells. The purpose of this protein is to suppress the work of another gene that produces a protein called interleukin-2. But this is serious. Interleukin-2 is the protein that activates leukocytes to search for germs (I wonder what does it motivate them? Feeds them with bananas? Probably sexually seducing … voluptuous interleukin-2 only squeezes with leukocytes that are actively worn in the body and are looking for disease-causing microbes).
So – on a complex chain – prolonged stress leads to depression of immunity. And genetics do not understand why this is happening ?? After all, it would seem that if the body is under stress, then it is necessary to support it, and not weaken it. Empower, not make it more vulnerable to disease. There are a dozen theories that try to explain this strange, seemingly unnatural, phenomenon, but they are all completely unsatisfactory, and genetics continue to look for an answer – so far unsuccessfully.
They lack the selection of perceptions to unravel this tangle.
The fact is that the concept of “stress” unites too heterogeneous phenomena, from which confusion occurs. The problem is a problem. If I struggle to run from Namche to Gokyo in one day, then I do it with pleasure, although I get very tired. If I, while walking around Kuala Lumpur, I suddenly find myself on a strong desire to sit down and lean against the study of Japanese hieroglyphs, after which I teach 50-100 hieroglyphs a day for several days, then I feel, of course, strong and pleasant fatigue. And I am absolutely sure that no excess of the concentration of cortisol in my blood will be detected. And now let’s imagine another person who is preparing for an exam at his university, and, like me, is sitting and cramming paragraphs. From the point of view of psychology, he is also under stress. But he will begin to accumulate this cortisol.
In modern rockets there is a very useful thing – a device that destroys a rocket if it fails and flies somewhere other than where it was launched. There is a sense in such a device, do not you find? A rocket, be it nuclear or even with a conventional warhead, is an extremely dangerous thing, and it would be extremely unpleasant if this crap went crazy and flew wherever it pleased. Cortisol – this is the safety valve. If for some reason a person completely lost his common sense and is engaged day after day in something that torments him, which is motivated by fears, false concepts like “well, you need to finish this damn university” or “mother will kill if I bring two” then cortisol becomes an instrument (of whom?), which is trying to save it from this senseless, self-destructive activity. The disease is the last line of defense. Remember, I wrote that laziness is a very healthy state that protects you from performing mechanical, due to the dullness of actions? But modern man is a real suicide, he has learned to overcome his laziness, he considers it a sin, and what remains (to whom?)? It remains the last resort – the last frontier – the disease.
You probably remember how often you wanted to get sick in childhood? This is a very healthy manifestation of the psyche. It turns out funny – the desire to get sick – a healthy phenomenon. But the way it is. When you have to get up in the morning, overcoming the aversion to going to a hated school, answering hated lessons, etc. – well, I really want to get sick, and you are lying and dreaming – I wish I would have a fever now …
Here’s how one friend of mine describes her childhood memories: “Since I don’t want to get up, I’m trying to crawl under a blanket so as not to see a bright light. I really want to sleep. The light hurts the eyes, and it seems that this morning is painful. I always dreamed of getting sick in such moments. The first thing I did in the morning was to look for signs of illness, and not because there was a fear of teachers or control people — it was always easy for me to learn. The reason was a terrible dullness, boredom, in which all school life seemed to float. Sometimes I took an iron barrette and made a scratch on the nasal mucosa to bleed. If there was a lot of blood from the nose, I could be left at home. I was always ashamed at the same time, and there was some other perception – as if I could only do this, as if this was the only way to resist. ”
Disease as a blessing that saves from complete, total idiocy. There lives a certain man with his mother, and now he lives with her, lives, lives, lives … why the hell does he live? Well, she erases his socks for him, cooks dinner … gets it continuously, saws, bothers, hangs over him with his care, with his demands and claims, and life becomes vile and gray, but he doesn’t change anything, and what can answer him … Who? This someone responds to him with cortisol, that is, with immunosuppression, that is, with a disease.
Looks, it means that our naive genetics at this situation, and is amazed: strange, why so? Excellent family, what kind of caring mother is, well done son, he brings five, and I would like to take immunity and help this son prepare for exams, why is this not happening? And this does not happen because this whole wonderful family is solid rot, and a wonderful mother is a fool and a tyrant, and a wonderful father is a moral monster (even if he is a professor), and a son is a half-dead idiot who kills himself by adopting the dead concepts about how to live, and doing the “right”, gets a “good education”, etc. And since it is rotten, the last fuse is triggered in a person, which can also be called a bodyguard. In general, one can imagine such a super professional bodyguard, who in an exceptional situation injures his client in order to save him from death. Everyone has such a bodyguard, although we don’t know about it. You can learn about its existence only by the commands that it gives in a critical situation. This most mysterious “he” is one of the subpersonalities of man – the last healthy beginning in a half-dead personality and half-dead body. It is this subpersonality that commands the creation of conditions for the occurrence of the disease. Other subpersonalities, of course, instantly suppress it – they have kilograms of pills in reserve, clusters of concepts “you have to go to work, you have to, you have to,” and as a result, we see what we see at every step – diseases that entail rapid aging and death.
Thus, the paradoxical, seemingly, role of cortisol is quite understandable – the suppression of immunity plays the role of a safety device, which deprives a person of the forces that he so unwisely uses, destroying his life, his personality, his body.
